Earlier this year I was obsessed with this drama called "Pasta". (blog post here) However due to various circumstances (well really just no time) I couldn't finish it until now. I can confidently say this is my favorite drama of all times. This drama is so funny and adorable you just can't help not loving it. It makes me want to smile 24/7.

2011-08-26 Jane Eyre

Just watched Jane Eyre, the miniseries by BBC. Unfortunately because it's TV version, it's not listed on Flixster so I think I'll just do a quick review here.

I first heard of Jane Eyre from my PA class. In my first year they did a song from there but I didn't really know what the story was about. Out of curiosity, I borrowed the DVD from the library. For some reason I kept thinking Jane Austen. lol. Anyhow it was a good thing I did because I loved it very much. The cast was amazing. I like Toby Stephen's Mr. Rochester very much. And Ruth Wilson's Jane Eyre fitted very well with, what I like to call Mr. Rochester, the beast. The cinematography was a pleasure pleasure to watch and it had the right amount of the various elements of Jane's life. The various foreshadowing of the twist in the ending was nicely done in the film. The best part of the movie has definitely got to be the story itself. Though I'm not too sure if I want to read the book yet. Apparently this film shortened the beginning part of her childhood and the ending after leaving the Rochester's house. I, in fact, like the change and enjoyed more of her experience in the Thornfield (perhaps it's because of Mr. Rochester lol). I think I'll wait a bit on the reading. But I'm so curious of the musical! Too bad we didn't do it during my three years of PA.

2011-08-08 Everything starts at Hogwarts, everything ends at Hogwarts

I decided to do a separate post on my thoughts of this last movie. (just for fun: click here)

Honestly I was a bit disappointed. Honestly this movie already has a 95% or higher guaranteed chance of success just with its title as the last HP film. I agree the movie was enjoyable but I thought it lacked epicness though I don't remember what happened in the book, if it's any less epic. Anyhow the beginning bugged me, especially the opening. Why?

2011-07-08 City Hunter Ep 1 {spoiler alert}

So I finally watched the first episode of the drama that everyone is soooo obsessed over these days. Honestly I think it's overrated but we'll see how it plays out. After watching the first episode I can only say I hope it gets better. Unlike IRIS, the first episode didn't make me immediately love this drama. It's understandable since it's basically setting up the plot for the coming episodes. But this episode is way too predictable that it got to the point of boredom. When Mu-yeol told his wife he will return safely and name their son when he returns it's so obvious in the drama world that he will not return. And since LMH is the main character who didn't appear in the beginning, it's so obvious that the baby will be LMH's character...do I really need to watch most of this episode? meh not really.

2011-07-07 My Black Mini Dress {spoiler alert}

The eng subs are finally out!!! yayayayay. So I finally watched the movie I had waited for so long: "My Black Mini Dress". My first impression? Honestly it was a bit confusing...maybe it was because of the bad subs or just the movie moves along really fast...but I got it in the end so that's all it matters. I think the biggest reason I like this movie is the subject it focuses on is really close to heart: friendship. Four best friends graduating from university. While each deals with their own personal conflicts they find themselves growing apart from each other. They are not perfect. Jealousy and lies exists. But in the end true friendship prevailed. And I think that's only possible because true friends understands and accepts you for who you are...and won't abandon because how you look, what you do, or your family background. It's funny how I watched this after graduation and have to move away and leave my friends. In a way this movie is like a what-not-to-do lesson. haha I do hope I can still remain good friends with all my high school pals even after years of uni without them. I guess only time will tell.

2011-05-14 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Last week, I finally got the chance to watch the movie, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It is a beautiful work to watch. Each character has a story to tell. The emotional tension really heightens in the end, when everyone realize they can't escape time and when Caroline realizing the sad truth. Life is a funny thing: you can't stop it, you can't escape it, and you can't go back in time, even for Benjamin Button.

While watching, three things popped into my mind: 1) Forrest Gump 2) Gatsby 3) Turnabout. Allow me to elaborate.

2011-01-23 Athena checkpoint: episode 12

Watched up to the latest episode - episode 12...finally Jung Woo showed some clear thinking. I hope things gets better now since Athena and NTS are clearly battling head on.

2011-01-14 Athena & Dream High {Spoiler Alert}

So I watched the first three episodes of Athena. After IRIS, which was an awesome drama except the awful ending {my rant here}, I had high expectations for Athena. I know that is it only a spin-off and is not the actual sequel but it should be just as awesomely intense right?...maybe not. So far, I'm feeling more confused than hooked with suspense. I am very bothered by the head-over-heel obsessiveness the main guy, Lee Jung-Woo, has for the girl, Yoon Hye-In...it was love at first site for him too. lllaammmee T_T It just makes his overall character very weak and stupid ~ very different from Hyun Joon from IRIS and I don't like it. Yoon Hye-In, on the hand, is a butt-kicking agent, which I like. But she's one of the bad guys? but she's also with the good guys? huh? The three years later transition was kind of big and abrupt for me. It left me kinda confused. And in the second episode, WHY IS THE FIRST 15MIN JUNG-WOO'S DREAM!!!! This is the first time I had seen such portrayal in a drama before. The fighting and the stunts in the dream was awesome but it's a dream. A DREAM! I don't see the point of inserting a dream in there other than making the drama seem more action-packed than it really is. And I dislike the main guy even more because in his dream, he dreamed all these crazy stunt agent work with Hye-In, the girl he kept on chasing despite her lack of interest for him...uhhh...does this guy have nothing better to do? what a sad life he lives. And the ending for episode 2 was just bad. Is it suppose to be suspense that Jung-Woo meets his ex-gf? gosh. And so far the missions in the episodes are really not that interesting~~~So in episode 3, they finally started doing some more agent work. They went to three different cities within one episode. wow. but really, after watching this episode, I really think this guy is kind of stupid. While all the evidence clearly points out that the korean girl they met is the target they are looking for, they didn't realize until it was too late. *sigh* Let's just hope it will get better now that the president's daughter is kidnapped.

2011-01-10 Pasta Pasta Pasta!!!

omg what to do. I totally did not expect this but I am sooooo obsessed with the drama "Pasta" right now! ahhhhhhhhhhh, I can't stop thinking about it. My mind is just "Chef", "Yes Chef", "Chef", "Yes Chef". LOL So I decided to skim through all the episodes really quick and then go back to watch each episode when I have time. ahhh now I feel a little less anxious but still excited about it.

2011-01-09 下一站，幸福 (Autumn's Concerto)

Beating the ratings of "Prince who Turned to a Frog", "Autumn's Concerto" became the second highest rated Taiwanese drama, following behind "Fated to Love You". And it's because of the fact that it is the most popular drama of 2010, that I watched this.

Truthfully, I had absolutely no idea what this drama was about when I first watched it because I didn't read any plot synopsis or summaries. So I was completely thrown off guard when I saw the promotion poster when the cast looked completely different and there's a kid? Then I found out about the 6 years later thing. LOL

But overall, I enjoyed it. I think it's more about cuz of the cast than the plot. hehhhe. I have to say, Vanness looks pretty good with his short haircut ^.~ (and he speaks fluent english!~ I never knew that :D). At times, he looked like Yunho. haha. and he is so well built!~ you rarely see chinese celebrities like that (but then again, he's American.). And Xiao Xiao Bin is soooooo cute!!! Especially his character in the drama! As well, I thought Ady An looked a lot like Barbie a lot of times too. Her character is very mature and wise but quite -- not the usual bubbly, headstrong girl you see in many other dramas. As for the supporting characters. It surprised me that they were not mean nor clingy. Like the second girl, He Yi Qian, is so understanding -- she didn't evil plot or create any misunderstandings. wow. And the mom, she became more understanding and kind in the end and stood on Mu Cheng's side. wowy, you rarely such a nice supporting cast.

I finally watched the long postponed movie, Avatar! I can now see why people are so crazy about it for the past year. The movie would have looked so cool in 3D in theaters because of the amazing effects! Pandora looks fabulous. I love the glow-in-dark plants!!! And the floating mountains!

Overall, the plot was...not bad. I liked the message it gave. And although a lot of the times, it was just showing the life in Pandora, the movie was enjoyable to watch. I love it how in the end humans all died while aliens celebrated -- and people wants to become aliens and so many people in the world liked this movie. Seriously, after watching this, I dislike the human species. We, humans, think we can do anything and everything because we got money and intelligence. People with power can be the scariest. We are often blinded by the short-term benefits to see the long-term consequences. We are too selfish to care for the wellbeing of others -- which is why some places (*cough* China *cough*) can be so corrupt and unsafe. Because of this selfishness, the world becomes more distrustful and more corrupt. Which is why life in Pandora is so attractive ~ because it's such a peaceful and happy place where sharing is caring. Everyone follows the same rules and are not greedy, but respectful of resources and each other. I wonder if the world will ever return to that peaceful lifestyle...

2010-19-10 Christmas Break!

I can't believe the break is here already! Just two days ago I was still studying for tests @___@ haha...well I'm happy for the break~ now I have time for all the things I never had time to do XD

Yes, yesterday I watched Harry Potter! I totally did not plan this. For the longest time, I told myself that I'll watch it when it comes on DVD. I actually gave up on Harry Potter movies after its horribleness (lol is that even a word? XD) in the fourth and fifth movie. But I suddenly decided to join my friends yesterday and watch it on the big screen. To my surprise, it's soo good! I suppose it's because there's a lot more details, since the entire movie is split into two parts. And the effects are very good! yay! but Daniel Radcliffe...I'm sorry but you are too ugly now. You looks fab in the third movie but your looks just went downhill from then onward. I prefer Rupert much over you. You have a square chin which I think makes you look more stubby, adding onto you short height. Even Emma Watson is taller than you...which makes it look kinda awkward when you are with them...and you are hairy. Maybe this is why you are called Harry. LOL

This drama actually surprised me in a good way. I remember watching a few episodes last summer, when this started airing in China. I thought it was going to be like every other lame Taiwanese drama except this is mainland. And I thought the guys were very ugly and everything was really childish compared with the Japanese version of Hana Yori Dango. Of course, I never watched the Korean version so I can't really compare. Then a few weeks ago, I decided to watch UTV on my iTouch and found HunanTV re-airing this. I got interested and decided to watch it. Finished all 36 episodes in 3 days! =D and of course, to my surprise it was actually good!

Although many elements of the plot was all very familiar with the original, this plot is still different. Firstly, H4 are not childhood friends. In fact, in the beginning, Yunhai and the other three competed with each other in proving that Yunhai is indeed better than them and is worthy to be friends with them. I love it when they compete with each other. kekeke.

I also really like the fact that the story is not only about Yunhai, Yuxun, and Duanmu but it's also about the relationships associated with Yunduo, Yeshuo, Xiaoyu, Shangguan, and Yuxin. However, one part that really bothered me throughout the whole show is that Yuxun didn't know she truly like Yunhai until the very end. For around thirty episodes, Yuxun was dating Duanmu. o_O Sure I know that according to the manga, it was like that too but she doesn't need to be with him for such a long time out of the entire drama! And she is always arguing with Yunhai to the point of annoyance for me. And of course, the ending was the most frustrating: he just had to lose his memory and forget about her, and his mom just had to get another girl to replace Yuxun's place. Ahhhhhh. I totally didn't watch all of those episodes for those @-@. Thank goodness there's season two.

I know I had said I'm giving up on dramas, but I had always wanted to watch IRIS so I've decided to watch it after a year away from dramas. I had high expectations for IRIS but after watching it, I can't exactly say it's an awesome awesome drama. Truthfully, I have mixed emotions about this one.
